Clean Up Mold on Barley

Research at the University of Manitoba has shown that barley contaminated with deoxynivalenol (DON) can have the level of mycotoxin significantly reduced by pearling. This process grinds away the outer coating, gets rid of about 70% of the DON on barley kernels, and improves the grain’s nutrient profile by eliminating the fibrous hull.
Consumption of DON-contaminated barley by livestock can lead to poor health and reduced growth rates.
