Would you recommend whole oats or rolled oats for horses?

Research has shown that rolling and other processing techniques have very little effect on the digestibility of oats. What does seem apparent from the research is that there can be a lot of individual variation between each horse’s ability to completely digest the oats, regardless of processing.

Because of this individual variation, you may want to see how your horse/horses do with the whole oats. If you see a lot of whole oats in the manure (not empty hulls), it would merit the price difference. If there are few whole oats, it probably wouldn’t.
