Question

My horse has equine motor neuron disease and has been given a powdered vitamin E supplement for three years. He gets 10,000 IUs of vitamin E daily. I want to replace the powered product with Nano-E because of its proven bioavailability. How much Nano-E should I give him?

Answer

Equine motor neuron disease (EMND) is an acquired neurodegenerative disorder affecting motor nerves. EMND is associated with low plasma concentrations of vitamin E and a dietary deficiency of at least 18 months. Choosing a natural-source, water-soluble vitamin E product such as Nano-E will provide your horse the best support for EMND.

To provide 10,000 IU of vitamin E with Nano-E, you will feed 40 mL/day, as Nano E contains 250 IU vitamin E per mL.

Because of the superior bioavailability of Nano-E, however, you may consider consulting with your veterinarian about feeding less than 10,000 IU per day. We generally do not recommend more than 5,000 IU per day unless advised by a veterinarian.
