Kentucky Equine Research-sponsored eventer Liz Halliday-Sharp capped off an exciting weekend at the Mars Great Meadow International with a speedy trip around the CCI4*-S cross-country course, clinching the win with Deniro Z.

The hilly terrain has always played a significant role on the final leaderboard placings at Great Meadow. In 2019, none of the CCI4*-S competitors were able to make the time. This year, just five of the 60 pairs crossed the finish line under the optimum time, causing significant shake-ups across the leaderboard.

When the leader after show jumping finished with time penalties, Liz and Niro became just one double-clear trip away from taking home the blue ribbon. Second-place finisher Will Coleman added to the pressure, crossing the finish line under the time just before Liz and Niro took to the course.

Liz and Niro got it done, jumping clear with the third-fastest time on course. “Niro is such a wonderful horse. He just tries so hard and we have such an amazing partnership now,” Liz said.

“In the dressage he did a personal best which is really, really great,” she said. “The show jumping was one of the best rounds I think we have ever had. And cross-country he was mega.”

Liz feeds Deniro Z RE-LEVE® from KER Targeted Nutrition. “Last year we found out that Deniro Z had really terrible ulcers. We couldn’t believe it because he looks wonderful, and he’s a very happy horse. When his performance dwindled at an event, we had him scoped, and we were horrified to see how many ulcers he had,” she said. “Now, we’re really strict with our feeding program. We’ve always supported RE-LEVE Original, but he used to get a little bit more energizing feed. Now, he is purely on RE-LEVE Original, and he’s never been better.”

Liz also uses Bio-Bloom™ PSEO-3™EquiShure®Nano-Q10™Restore® SRRiteTrac®, and Synovate HA® to give her horses targeted nutritional support for optimal performance.
