Many ex-racehorses go on to successful second careers in other disciplines. However, transitioning from life at the track can require special nutritional considerations for these horses.

Kathleen Crandell, Ph.D., a nutritionist at Kentucky Equine Research, recently presented several feeding strategies to help off-track Thoroughbreds in a webinar presented by the Retired Racehorse Project. In the webinar, Crandell covered general guidelines for feeding OTTBs, including ways to meet energy requirements, monitor body condition score, offer supplements, and more.
