Susan Cooney, a Thoroughbred trainer based in Virginia, has relied on KER products and advice from Kentucky Equine Research for years. “The science behind it all is really important to me,” Cooney explains. “The horses have done really well on the KER supplements and other things we use.”

Cooney breeds, trains, and races from her stable in Boyce, Va. She added Triacton®, a bone and digestive health supplement from Kentucky Equine Research, to her feeding program in 2017. Since then, she reports a dramatic reduction in soundness problems in young horses in training.

“Bucked shins are one of the things that causes trainers to lose a lot of time with two-year-olds,” she explains. Of the eight horses she developed from yearlings and kept to race, she reported “not a single case of bucked shins, which is huge. I don’t think I’ve ever had a year where I can say that.”

Based on this result, she’s added Triacton to the rations of all her young horses as well as broodmares who have a history of foals with developmental issues.

Triacton is a triple-action supplement developed by Kentucky Equine Research to improve bone density and support digestive health in horses. The pelleted supplement contains bioavailable minerals and vitamins essential for sound skeletal development and maintenance, as well as optimal function of the gastrointestinal tract.
