Kentucky Equine Research would like to congratulate Justify and his connections for winning the 144th Kentucky Derby. Justify not only won with ease by 2½ lengths but also broke a 136-year-old curse.

In his first start ever on February 18, the three-year-old Scat Daddy colt began his racing career with an impressive 9½-length win. Unraced as a two-year-old, Justify was faced with Apollo’s curse going into the Derby, referring to the fact that no horse had won the Derby unraced as a two-year-old since Apollo in 1882. That is, until now.

Justify, trained by Bob Baffert, remains undefeated heading into the Preakness, the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Baffert is no stranger to winning prestigious Triple Crown races, having trained, among others, American Pharoah, winner of the Triple Crown in 2015 and only the twelfth horse in history to accomplish that feat.

Baffert relies on KER Race Recovery™ to help Justify and other horses in his stable recover quickly after racing. Race Recovery is designed for horses given furosemide (Lasix®) to strategically replenish electrolytes at critical times following exercise, stimulating thirst and replacing body weight quickly. “The Triple Crown is all about recovery to turn in three world-class performances,” explained Baffert. “With Race Recovery, I know my winning horses have the best nutritional support to bounce back and win again.”

Justify is also fed Hallway Feeds, a KER Balance Partner. This victory makes 12 Derby winners to Hallway Feeds’ credit. They also feed the Kentucky Oaks winner Monomoy Girl, trained by Brad Cox.
